Havapoo

Meet Havapoo

The Havapoo is an adorable designer breed that combines the gentle, loving nature of the Havanese with the intelligence of the Poodle. Known for their soft, curly coats and expressive eyes, Havapoos are affectionate companions perfect for families, singles, and seniors alike.

About Havapoo

Havapoos are often referred to as “velcro dogs” because they love sticking close to their owners.

History

The Havapoo is a modern designer breed that emerged in the late 20th century to create a small, loving, and low-shedding companion dog. Its parent breeds, however, have rich histories. The Havanese originated in Cuba as a beloved lapdog of nobility, while the Poodle has long been admired for its intelligence and hypoallergenic coat. Breeders blended these traits to create the Havapoo, a cheerful companion with a gentle temperament and wonderful trainability. Today, the Havapoo is one of the most popular doodle mixes thanks to its friendly personality and manageable size.

Personality

Havapoos are known for being affectionate, gentle, and highly social. They love spending time with their families and tend to get along well with other pets. Because of their Poodle heritage, they are smart and eager to learn, making training enjoyable and easy. Havapoos thrive on attention and do best in homes where they are included in daily activities. Their temperament is typically described as happy, cuddly, curious, and a bit playful.

Appearance

The Havapoo’s appearance can vary depending on which parent they take after, but most have wavy or curly coats that are soft and low-shedding. Their coats may come in a variety of colors, including cream, white, chocolate, black, apricot, or a mix of shades. With round eyes and a teddy bear–like expression, they have an irresistible charm. Regular coat care is recommended to prevent tangling. Brushing several times a week, trimming around the eyes, and routine grooming will help your Havapoo stay healthy and comfortable.

Care

Feeding your Havapoo a balanced diet is essential for steady growth and long-term health. Puppies should be fed high-quality puppy food divided into two to three meals a day. Adult Havapoos typically do well on two measured meals per day, depending on activity level and weight. Although they are small, Havapoos enjoy daily exercise such as short walks, playtime, or mental stimulation games. Their low-shedding coats require routine brushing, occasional baths, nail trimming, and regular dental care. With proper care, this breed is quite easy to maintain.

Life Expectancy

The Havapoo generally stands between 8 to 15 inches tall and weighs 8 to 15 pounds.
This breed enjoys a long life, with an average life expectancy of 12 to 15 years.

Yes! Havapoos are affectionate, gentle, and patient, making them wonderful family pets.

They are low-shedding thanks to their Poodle heritage, but they still require regular grooming.

Very much so. Havapoos are intelligent and eager to please, which makes learning commands fun and quick.
