The BoShih is a charming and affectionate designer breed created by crossing the lively Boston Terrier with the sweet, gentle Shih Tzu. Known for their adorable faces, compact size, and loving personalities, BoShihs make excellent companions for families, seniors, and singles alike.
BoShihs often inherit the Boston Terrier’s tuxedo-like markings and the Shih Tzu’s luxurious coat, giving them a uniquely adorable look!
The BoShih is a relatively modern hybrid breed developed to combine the Boston Terrier’s playful and energetic personality with the Shih Tzu’s gentle and affectionate nature. Boston Terriers, originally bred in the United States as companion dogs, are known for their intelligence and outgoing character. Shih Tzus, a beloved toy breed from China, are famed for their friendly disposition and long, flowing coats. Breeders combined these traits to create the BoShih—a small, friendly, and charming dog perfect for families or anyone seeking a devoted companion.
BoShihs are loving, intelligent, and social dogs. They enjoy spending time with their families and thrive in environments where they receive attention and affection. With a mix of Boston Terrier energy and Shih Tzu sweetness, they are playful yet gentle. Their temperament is often described as friendly, loyal, curious, and adaptable. Early socialization helps them get along well with children and other pets, making them ideal family companions.
BoShihs are small dogs with a sturdy, compact build. Their coat can range from short and smooth to slightly wavy, depending on which parent they take after. Coat colors may include black, white, brindle, tan, or blends of these shades. Many BoShihs inherit the Boston Terrier’s distinctive facial markings and the Shih Tzu’s expressive eyes. Regular brushing, occasional baths, and basic grooming keep their coat healthy and soft.
Feeding your BoShih a high-quality diet appropriate for their size, age, and activity level is essential. Puppies should be fed two to three small meals a day, while adults thrive on two balanced meals. BoShihs have moderate exercise needs—daily walks, playtime, and interactive games keep them healthy and happy. Grooming routines should include brushing several times per week, occasional baths, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and dental care. Their intelligence makes training enjoyable with positive reinforcement techniques.
BoShihs typically stand 10 to 14 inches tall and weigh 10 to 20 pounds. Their average life expectancy ranges from 12 to 15 years.
