Dogs are likely the best running buddies on the planet. You will never hear them complain about being too tired and always prepared to go on adventures with you! Not all dogs are made for running (or even long distance walking). If you’d like a soft and fuzzy running partner while you’re out and about, these 5 breeds may just be what you’re looking for.

1. Pembroke Welsh Corgi

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi might look like a fluffy little munchkin but it’s not a lap hound in any way. Corgis are known for being energetic and quick, despite their size and short legs. Their fiery personality likely originates from their ancestors, who were once reared as sheep herders in Wales. Along with their athletic traits, they completely love being outside so make sure to spend lots of time with your Corgi!

2. Weimaraner

The Weimaraner is famous for its huge size and flexibility. They are phenomenal at running for long periods of time and can endure hot climates. On top of this, Weimaraners are incredible at hiking trails, no matter the distance. Their bold nature and trainability allows them to be the ideal sidekick for hikers and runners.

3. Portuguese Water Dog

Although they were once reared to hunt fish and find broken nets, the Portuguese Water Dog is now considered the perfect surfing buddy. They absolutely love the water, which lets them use their solid retrieving skills and remain close to their owners. They’re also very friendly towards other people and dogs but have a need for action. Surfers and water lovers—this is the puppy for you!

3. Border Collie

The Border Collie is a herding dog, designed to run long distances and other endurance-related activities. It is also considered one of the smartest dog breeds.  Border Collies love being active all the time, and so, puppy parents should ensure these pooches are getting their daily activity fix!

4. Bernese Mountain Dog

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a gigantic yet spirited furry friend. Originally, they worked as drafting and driving dogs, and can walk a rough hiking trail without much resistance or complaints! These furballs are incredible climbing sidekicks and can tolerate cold weather.

Of course, you should always make sure your puppy is happy, healthy, and comfortable with doing strenuous activities. Bring water, food, and other necessary supplies before going on your adventure together!
